Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let it rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a baguette.
- Let it rise for another 30 minutes on a baking sheet.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Slash the top of the baguette with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

- For a crustier baguette, place a pan of water in the oven while baking.
- Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
